Oh PETA, they’re always good for a laugh. Or, now they’re good for making a pretty funny Flash game. PETA’s latest fight against cruelty to animals, comes by way of the popular cooking game, Cooking Mama. It originated on the DS, and has seen an iteration on the Nintendo Wii. PETA’s knock-off Flash game is called, Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals.

The basics of Cooking Mama are simple. You are given recipes, and you have to execute the different steps in the recipes to create the best meals your chef hat adorned head can come up with. So, it all sounds pretty harmless, and fun….right?
According to PETA, “She (Cooking Mama) looks innocent enough—a happy woman who has a twinkle in her eye and loves to cook—but if you take just a minute to think about what happens to the animals who are killed for Mama’s meals, a fun cooking game no longer seems quite so innocent.”
The ‘innocence’ of which they question is all the (virtual) animals that had to be killed in order for us to enjoy Cooking Mama. Ultimately, PETA’s plan is to try and get Majesco, the developer of Cooking Mama to have more vegetarian meals featured. PETA has created a site dedicated to showing the inhumanity of what Cooking Mama represents. OH THE HUMANITY!! PETA created a two-in-one moral statement here, as they’re speaking out against Cooking Mama, while also dissecting the evils of Thanksgiving. Because Cooking Mama is apparently getting her turkey ready for a Thanksgiving feast.
As you play the Flash game, you can unlock a few prizes. I’m actually using one of the prizes, as my wallpaper has been set to the Mama Kills Animals wallpaper. Not because I think Cooking Mama and/or Thanksgiving is wrong, but because it’s hilarious.
If you find things wrong with the cutesy dish making Cooking Mama, or turkey eating on Thanksgiving. PETA has setup a page for you to write Majesco, if you desire to protest.
