With E3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and new console launches coming soon, the PlayStation.Blog is about to become a busier place than usual. Even on a typical week, Monday’s posts tend to be buried deep down by, say Thursday. So every Saturday, we’re going to be putting together a weekly recap of PlayStation.Blog, as well as any other related blogs that might be active (SOCOM.com right now). If you only read one PlayStation.Blog post this week - make it this one!

  • Dev Q&A 03 - Seth Luisi and Allen Goode talk about laggy players, ranking, SureShot, and character customization.
  • Gun of the Week: M4A1 - Raise your hand if you don’t like the M4A1. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
  • Hello From Europe! - Shijima is the European Producer for SOCOM. Come check out some quick voice samples for the Euro version.

PixelJunk in the Trunk: Tell us your story

Author:  |  Category: P3S Articles, Xbox Articles

Hey everyone,

It’s Deb Mars here, and I’m back on the blog to announce that we’re having a give away. Oh yeah, that’s right…a give away. It’s about time we put some PixelJunk in your trunk.

Monster Madness

As many of you know, we recently released PixelJunk Monsters Encore and just last week we put out the official PixelJunk Monsters Soundtrack on PSN. We hope you’re all enjoying the new levels and the awesome music. In case you missed out, be sure to go to the PlayStation Store and pick it up, and also be sure check out a very cool interview between Q-Games and Otograph here on the blog.

OK so here’s the deal: We’ve seen a large number of comments about fans playing PixelJunk Monsters and Encore in co-op mode with their wives/husbands, girlfriends/boyfriends, partners, non-gamer friends, you name it. Personally, I’d love to see Dylan Cuthbert, president of Q-Games, be able to sit down and play with the Queen of England, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Anyway, it seems that we’re not the only ones feeling the PixelJunk love, and it’s clearly bringing people together and making relationships stronger. Or maybe not. Who knows? Maybe you’re getting pissed off at each other for not getting that last rainbow? Or maybe you’re actually able to smile at the glory of finding common ground again with that special someone as you dance on those trees, collect those coins, save your flock and clear all those levels.

Either way, we want to know. Tell us your story about playing PixelJunk Monsters co-op. We’ll be sharing the best in a future PixelJunk post. Oh, and if you’ve got any pics of you and your special someone playing PJM together, send those in too. We’d love to see them! The senders (to pixeljunkcouples@gmail.com) of the first five qualifying PixelJunk Monster tales that we receive (under 250 words, please!) will get two (2) amazingly cool t-shirts – one for each of you. Wear them with pride!

Still spreading the PixelJunk Love,

Top 5 Most Wanted Virtual Console Titles

Author:  |  Category: Wii Articles, Xbox Articles

It’s Friday once again, so that means I get to post my top 5 list for the Nintendo Wii. I was able to find out some good news today about the Virtual Console (scroll down to #1 for the news). So in light of this news, I figured I would post my Top 5 List of “Most Wanted Virtual Console Titles”.

5. - Mega Man Games

Mega Man

Mega Man X

Mega Man Kid

These trio of pictures represent just a few of the different styles that Mega Man has had over the years. Starting out as a small sprite on the NES, Mega Man has always been a staple for the Nintendo consoles. The spirit and gameplay of Mega Man hasn’t changed a whole lot through the years, until he went into 3-D. None of those 3-D games could capture the frantic gameplay mechanics of the 2-D versions. Any of the NES, or SNES versions of Mega Man need to be on the Virtual Console, as soon as possible.

Wario “Shakes” Things Up On The Wii

Author:  |  Category: Wii Articles, Xbox Articles

Wario has had a pretty varied career so far for Nintendo. He started out on the original Game Boy, as a villain to Mario, in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. He has seen his own exclusive titles throughout the years, most recently in the WarioWare series. WiiFanboy, is reporting that Wario shall be returning to his 2D platforming roots this summer.

I’m pretty stoked to see Wario putting on his platforming shoes, as it’s been too long since Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. The Japanese “fact sheet” that was leaked, has been translated, so we have a basic idea behind the gameplay of Wario Land: Shake.

Nintendo Wii To Get Sim City

Author:  |  Category: Wii Articles, Xbox Articles

There are very few strategy games that I’ve played through out the years. Sim City just happens to be one of the few that graced my PC back in the day. It is being reported by TotallyWii.com that Wii owners can look out for a Sim City game sometime later this year. It will release in Japan first, but soon find its’ way stateside.

Of course you can’t just trust in an article, so luckily TotallyWii was able to provide scans of Famitsu with proof. Going by the screens, the game looks to have a distinct look than Sim City games prior to it. So enjoy the screens, and as soon as more info arises, WiiBlog will be reporting it.

Barack Obama Gets A Mii

Author:  |  Category: Wii Articles, Xbox Articles

While politics and video games have rarely gotten along, atleast one politician has made his way into games. Barack Obama’s Mii has been gaining popularity since its’ creation. It has become so popular in fact, that it’s in the top 50 Mii downloads.

Obama is surrounded by other characters, such as Batman, Indiana Jones, and Snoop Dizzle. It’s funny, because I never noticed that Obama’s initials were “B.O.”, which for some reason made me chuckle. So if you believe in Obama’s “Change”, support your candidate and hop on the Check Mii Out channel today.

Top 5 Friday - Top 5 Ideas For The Wii

Author:  |  Category: Wii Articles, Xbox Articles

I’m all about starting traditions. So, in lieu of this idea I thought I would start a tradition of doing “Top 5 Fridays”. From now on every Friday, I will be providing a Top 5 list about anything relating to the Nintendo Wii. I’d also like to see your ideas of different lists, and feedback on ones that I provide. So I hope you enjoy the first Top 5 Friday list.

My Top 5 Ideas For The Nintendo Wii:

5. - Hard Drive Add-On

If you frequent any kind of Nintendo Wii forum, you’ve probably stumbled onto this topic. The Wii comes with standard 512 MB of flash memory, which can hold quite a bit of saved games. The problem is, the more Nintendo keeps offering by way of downloadable content (Virtual Console, WiiWare), the less spacious 512 MB seems. Sure, you can delete channels to free up space and re-download games at a later time, but why should we have to?

Many of the rumors floating around seem to point to Nintendo announcing a HDD (hard drive disk), at E3 later in the summer. Let’s hope this turns out to be the case, because if more games like LostWinds come out. I’m going to need all the space I can get.
