PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

Author: Jeff Rubenstein  |  Category: P3S Articles, Xbox Articles

In just a few short hours, PAX 2008 will be but a distant, awesome memory. Next week, we’ll be posting the interviews we shot (featuring the questions you asked) with Insomniac, Sucker Punch, and Hothead Games. We’ll also shed a little more light on the gameplay of Resistance Retribution for PSP, and recap today’s Blog Reader Meet-up (spoiler: it was awesome).

PAX isn’t really a “news generator” in the way E3 and Leipzig were, but if you read anything you’d like to share with the class, link out below.

In the meantime, I hope you have a good, relaxing Labor Day (if applicable). See you Tuesday.

The PS Blog weekly reading list (Week of 8/25)

PAX 08: It’s a PAX’ified X3F sticker gallery

Author: Dustin Burg  |  Category: Xbox Articles

Filed under:

We did it during E3 and figured we'd do it again. It's back and better than ever, the oh so cool and 100% organic X3F sticker gallery this time from the Penny Arcade Expo 2008. Yippy! And after two days of walking the show floor, we were able to corner and subsequently stick a few Bungie employees including the Marty as well as The Behemoth's Dan Paladin, Torpex's Bill Dugan, a Blue Knight, Gears' Josh and Pete, Claude from HBO and MORE! All the sticky X3F PAX stickering is galleried below, minus any ninja-sticks. Don't worry though, we'll get some ninja-sticks in before PAX ends ... we plomise.

PAX 08: Castle Crashers patch to release ASAP

Author: Dustin Burg  |  Category: Xbox Articles

In a Penny Arcade Expo interview posted over on Joystiq, The Behemoth's Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp talk Castle Crashers problems, making it very clear that they're working hard to release an online co-op fixing patch "as soon as possible."

"We're trying to get it out as soon as possible, because we know it's important to people" Paladin explained, saying that the main issue with Castle Crashers' online component is due to players' conflicting network conditions. But Paladin made it clear that they did all they could to work out potential network issues prior to launch saying that network problems "was something that never came up in testing." So, when will we see patch goodness? As soon as humanly possible, though truthfully, Fulp admitted that there "isn't any official time frame yet."

Check out the complete The Behemoth interview over at Joystiq to learn more about the Castle Crashers development process, how pricing XBLA games really works and learn a super secret strategy for unlocking a few new in-game characters.

PAX 08: PAX inspired Rock Band DLC announced

Author: Dustin Burg  |  Category: Xbox Articles

Admittedly, we're a bit late on informing you about the latest batch of upcoming Rock Band downloadable content, but we've been busy touring Microsoft's campus and doing other PAX things. Please forgive us. But no matter the date, you should know that this Tuesday, Harmonix will be releasing a PAX inspired set of Rock Band DLC for your downloading consumption. For 80 Microsoft points a track, you'll be able to grab music from PAX artists Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot and Darkest of the Hillside Thickets. Now that's Penny Arcade enjoyable!
  • "Skullcrusher Mountain" by Jonathan Coulton (80)
  • "Livin' on the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe" by MC Frontalot (80)
  • "Shhh…" by Darkest of the Hillside Thickets (80)
[Thanks, Dark Caboose]

PAX 08: Red vs. Blue goes animated

Author: Dustin Burg  |  Category: Xbox Articles

Earlier yesterday, the Rooster Teeth crew held a rather interesting reveal, unveiling their latest Red vs. Blue project and it has gone animated. Yup, RvB has moved on from its machinima roots and jumped into the world of Japanese anime complete with vivid imagery and pretty colors. It's still the good old Rooster Teeth humor we've all come to know and love ... just animated with some dancing Grunts. Off-screen footage embedded above.

[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

SOCOM Confrontation Beta news

Author: Jeff Rubenstein  |  Category: P3S Articles, Xbox Articles

I’ve been busy with shooting interviews at PAX today, but now that I’ve got the chance to catch up, I just wanted to share an update on the SOCOM Confrontation public beta that was posted earlier today on SOCOM.com. Here’s the word straight from SCEA’s Seth Luisi:

Hi folks,

Well, I’ve got some good and not so good news. The good news is that we are still on track to delivering a kick-ass experience come October. The bad news is that because we are working so hard to ensure the final product is fantastic, we’ve decided to push back the Public Beta date just a few days in order to bump up the experience even more. So, the new launch date for the Public Beta is now Friday, September 5th (QORE members will start the following Friday, September 12).

The other good news is that we are not cutting down the length of the Public Beta one bit. It will still run for a full month - from 9/5 to 10/5 - so you and your clanmates can still practice as long as you want and then be ready to go for the full game later in October.

Myself, my team and Slant Six are burning the midnight oil to ensure this game is the best it can possibly be for you guys. We completely understand it’s hard to wait when you haven’t had a chance to play it yet but, rest assured, the wait will be worth it. If you haven’t done it already, you can pre-order the game from GameStop® in the US to get into the Public Beta (EB Games™ for our brethren to the North). Make sure to bring along 2 extra friends once you register and get the email promo code from us; that code will let them in too. You’re not going to get another Public Beta out there that will give you and your squad-mates so much access.

Best,
Seth

For the latest updates on the public beta, and everything SOCOM, keep an eye on SOCOM.com.
